4.1 Introduction
The Siteseed platform enables the creation of websites from a web interface. That is, as opposed to what happens with most content management applications, the Siteseed backoffice allows us to carry out the entire website technical management process, including the initial project design.
In order to understand the entire process surrounding the creation of a website, this chapter includes a practical example.
4.2 The project
A group of specialists in technology wishes to join together and make available details on all technological innovations, as well as their personal opinions on various themes related to the Internet and the computer world, on a single website. After lengthy discussion, it was decided that the name of the project would be ‘Log’. In fact, this project would be exactly that, a list of technological news and happenings, with short texts and some personal opinions from the Log editorial team.
4.2.1 Structure of the website
For the Log these main characteristics of the project were agreed:
1. The website takes the shape of an online newspaper with the content structure organised by articles that take on a graphic formatting in accordance with their importance.
2. The website has five areas, e.g.: news (correspondence between the homepage), hardware, software, macplanet, programming and games.
3. The navigation menu for the five main areas is to be accessed from any part of the website.
4. A free text search engine is to be made available through the website interface.
5. Some space should be allowed for inserting advertising banners;
6. A highlight bar is to be created where very important articles and links can be inserted;
7. Given the Log project also relies on public participation, a login and password system are to be created allowing registered visitors both to access a form to send news to the website and also so that a Log newsletter can be distributed to them.
