3.7 The Staff menu
The staff menu allows us to manage the staff who have been granted access to the Siteseed backoffice, as well as defining their respective profile. In addition to placing users onto the Journalist, Editor and Technician lists, differentiated profiles can also be established within these categories. Hence, a technician may not have access to all back office technical functions and a journalist may only be able to manage certain contents on certain subjects or edit only some existing page objects.
3.7.1 The staff editor
Access to the staff editor is achieved from the back office ‘Edit’ and ‘New’ options.
3.7.1.1 Staff user editing
Access to user editing is made from the ‘Edit’ button in the Staff menu. On the screen a staff list contained in the back office will come up, with each member of staff identified by his/her respective login.
From that list, it is possible to delete a user (‘Remove’ button on the right of the list) or to edit the profile. To do this, simply click on the respective profile.
The profile editor is divided into two areas. At the top, the basic characteristics of the profile are defined, as well as the user identification data.
Further below, there are three boxes for blocking access. The first box pertains to technical profile access. The second to page objects editing. Finally, the third allows website subjects to be blocked off. The blocking boxes only appear in the base profile where the base profile (journalist, editor or technician) selected for a user implies access to the types of structures predefined there. Hence, if the chosen base profile is that of journalist, then on the screen comes up the subject inhibition box. If, on the other hand, the profile is that of editor, then the technician blocking box will not appear.
The top box includes references to the user, specifically his/her login, name and e-mail. The next fields allow us to define the basic profile (journalist, editor or technician) and where the chosen profile is that of journalist, the one subject selection option. The last box is only relevant for creating journalist profiles with access to a single subject, hence avoiding the need to block the box with the complete list of subjects.
On the top left of the blocking boxes are three options: Select all, Clear All and Undo.
These options make the task of selecting items to block easier.
Should the user have the basic technician profile, then on screen the blocking functions box from the technician’s bar comes up.
For each user with technician access, it is possible to define which options on the respective bar are available.
For those users with editor access, it is possible to block the editing of one or more page objects, as well as the subjects for article classification.
Finally, for users with a journalist profile, only the subjects to which he/she has access can be defined.
In order to register to the system the modifications made, simply select the option ‘Save’ at the end of the article editor page.
