3.3 The Layout menu

The layout menu allows the definition of the graphic appearance of website contents be they articles, comments from the public or others. The menu is divided into two options, the box edit and the layout edit. The box editor allows us to set the parameters for the base structure of the graphic frames for the contents. The layout editor, in turn, allows parameters to be set for all visual characteristics such as colours used, the fonts, image inserting, etc.

1.3.1 The box editor

The box editor allows us to define the visual frame around the website articles. The number of boxes per website is unlimited. Hence, we can create as many box models as we wish.

1.3.1.1 Modifying a box model

In order to edit a box model, select the option ?Boxes? on the ?Visual Components? menu.

On the screen, a list comes up of those boxes currently held by the system.

Each listed box model is identified both by its own id and by the respective title. On the right of the elements identifying each model appear the options ?Copy? and ?Delete?. In order to duplicate a box model simply press the option ?Copy?. Immediately after a new model will appear on the models list with the same title as the copied model, but with a different id.

To delete a box model from the system we simply have to select the option ?Remove?.

To edit a model click on the respective title on the model list.

On the screen there then appears the box edit interface.

On the left side of the screen an editable text box comes up with the name of the box model. Immediately below appear three boxes which allow the HTML code definition of the background colours used at the top, in the middle and at the foot of the box model. Below, there is another box for defining the colour of the line around the box or ?border?. On the right of this box it is also possible to define whether we want a 1 pixel line (to do this select the ?check box?), as well as the margin size for the said line.
On the right-hand side of the edit interface there are 8 text boxes allowing the appearance of the line or frame around the box model to be defined. These definitions are to be used where we do not want a simple line as is the case with the options of ?Border colour? and ?1 pixel border?. The 8 boxes allow us to define the use of images in order to establish the upper, lower, right and left lines of the frame, as well as the images of the corners of the 4 box models.
The images to be used are to be sent previously to the server where the website project is installed. The system administrator then provides the project team with the name of the image files as well as their location in the server, within the directory corresponding to the project.

In order to save the changes made to a box model simply select the ?Save? option at the bottom of the edit interface box model.
